round()

Round to nearest.

Returns the integral value that is nearest to x with halfway cases rounded away from zero.

The round() function is a function that rounds a number to a specified number of decimal places. It takes two arguments: the number to be rounded and the number of decimal places to round to. If the second argument is not provided, the function rounds to the nearest whole number.

For example, round(3.14159) would return 3, and round(3.14159, 2) would return 3.14.

It is important to note that the round() function uses “round half to even” or “banker's rounding” which rounds to the nearest even number if the number is exactly half way between two others.

Syntax

round(x);
round(x, dec);

Parameters

x Number to round.
dec Number of decimals. (optional)
Return Value The value of x rounded to the nearest integer.

Examples

result = round(2.3);

result:

2
